4 minutes extra time. In danger of ending the game with Sporting KC with a 0-0 tie at home. And then Jeff Parke came out of thin air to head it into the goal. Parke had not scored a goal (he’s a defender after all) since 2004. Arlo White, Sounders broadcaster, had a brilliant comment at the end of that clip: “That was his first goal of the Obama Administration.” Parke’s reward:


I almost feel like I’ve been neglecting my soccer love lately on the blog. In honor of the US Men’s National Team being announced today for the Gold Cup, below is a sampling of some tweets today, both Gold Cup & non-Gold Cup related.

Discussion over the weekend began about flopping in the NBA. During the World Cup last summer, you could read and hear many in sports media complain about flopping in soccer. A quiet retort for two of them below:

And yes, I am going to post this again. One of the few times, I “almost” wish I was a person that bet. Note the time stamp on the tweet; pre-race prediction that was sure to fail–NOT. Who needs a rapture prediction when you’ve got me picking horse races?
